Eli Dijker's photography solo exhibition

12th May - 30th October 2018

Porta Coeli International Art Gallery & Academy is currently hosting Eli Dijker’s photography solo exhibition.
Rotterdam-based artist, he came to Venosa on 7th May 2018 for his Artist Residency in Basilicata, a prize he was bestowed in October 2017 during the XI Florence Biennale. Selected amongst over five hundred artists, the Dutch photographer is one of the most well-known in the world contemporary photography panorama. Many-awarded artist on an international level, he has been recently awarded the Ilford Master Prize, exclusively bestowed to the most talented photographers in the world.
Within the broader Artist Residency project, on Saturday 12th May his solo exhibition titled “Resonance” was inaugurated at the Porta Coeli’s premises. The opening was attended by Municipal, Regional Authorities and cultural actors adding critical contribution. The artworks on show have been combined so as to underline the powerful aesthetic suggestions they are able to convey. Thirty-seven photographs have been selected for the project starting from the artist’s entire production: eight from the “Resonance” series, three from the “Interrupted Dream” series and eight from “The Silent River” series. Eighteen more smaller photographs complete the selection, including also diptychs. All this, to provide visitors with a wider perspective on the artist’s talent, spanning refined technical ability and rare aesthetic sensibility.
Indeed, the term “Resonance” conveys the whole meaning of his photographic flair, and is aimed at strengthening, amplifying or intensifying emotions through the reflection returned by any object or energy. This is how Eli Dijkers describes his artistic goal: “I want my images to resonate with the viewer. When this happens, the sensation can me more intense when it amplifies feelings, emotions or memories inside”.
The Basilicata landscapes have been entrusted to Eli Dijkers by Porta Coeli’s board of selection, for art can be the most powerful means to write anew the story of Basilicata.
Eli Dijker’s experience here has been enriched by workshops with both photographers, aficionados and the students of the Culture and Heritage Management Master’s Course, at its third edition this year.
A step forward in Porta Coeli’s internationalization projects, promoting artists from Basilicata abroad and, conversely, fostering international production in Basilicata.
